A lady t BMW asked me last week if UsedCarExpert.co.uk covered all cars. I made a joke about ‘everything but the odd Ssangyong and Koenigsegg.’ The flippant remark got me thinking about cars that are still on the used car market, in most cases, in plentiful supply but often overlooked and completely forgotten as far as the press are concerned.

Here are three good family cars, for £5,000 or less that you won’t hear mentioned in the pub. But who cares?

Nissan Primera

Still looks unusual. But it is one of the most practical and best value family cars on sale. Sold well to company fleets so lots around and cheap. Worth it for the comfy and well finished interior.
Most economical: 2.2TD
Best used buy: 1.8

Used Car Expert magazine: A 2005 1.8 with an average mileage of 45,000 miles will cost around £4,500.

Rover 75

Very comfy classy and great value almost the perfect used car. Values are falling sharply and there is a good choice of well-equipped saloons and estates.
Most economical: 2.0 TD
Best used buy: 1.8

Used Car Expert magazine:
A 2005 1.8 with average mileage of 38,000 miles will cost around £4,899.

Hyundai Sonata

Well equipped family car with plenty of room and standard kit. Initial depreciation is huge so don't buy too new.
Most economical: 2.0
Best used buy: 1.8

Used Car Expert magazine: A 2005 2.0 Sonata CDX with 23,000 average miles will be around £5,041.
