Hi
I bought a second Peugeot that someone bought from an auction. They sold it on Auto Trader as 79,000 miles. However when we looked at the mileage it said 43,000 so its clearly clocked.
However, the seller was able to give 2 previous MOT certificates showing 75,000 and 68,000 miles respectively just 6 months ago..
So the clocking had taken place between OCT2007 and now.
What sort of problem does that bring with it?
Bearing in mind its just a runaround car for my son for a couple of years at which point it will be only worth 300 quid.
We only paid 1400 for it. Your thoughts would be very gratefully received indeed..

Hi George,
It could just be that the speedo has broken. Why would the seller show the MOT for 75,000 if he was trying to sell it as a 43,000 mile car? It doesn't make sense.
You have paid less than the average private sale price for a car with 70,000 miles, let alone 43,000 miles. So either way, you have not been fleeced.
So I think you should just think of it as an 80,000 mile car and not worry about what the speedo says. At 80,000 miles, with luck, the Peugeot shoudl still have 15,000 miles or more useful life before the bills get big.
