PEUGEOT 107 (2006 - Present) Fault Guide

Evolutions

Year Change or development
2005 Peugeot 107 launched with 1.0 litre petrol engine

Bodywork and External Checks

Area What to look for What it means What to do
Headlights Check that the headlights work on dipped, main and full beam. To replace the headlight bulbs you have to remove the front bumper which means visiting a mechanic. It’s an hours labour at a main dealer. If there is a blown bulb then try to negotiate £80.00 off of the purchase price which is the price of an hours labour at a main dealer.

Engine Checks

Area What to look for What it means What to do
Engine If the car is approaching 50,000 miles then check the service history or ask the vendor if the water pump has been replaced. At this mileage there is likelihood that the water pump may need replacing. Negotiate £350.00 off of the price of the vehicle.
Engine / Exhaust When the engine is running but the car is at a standstill, rev the engine with the gearbox in neutral. Wind down the windows and listen listen for blowing from the back box of the exhaust. This is heard as a low, jagged growling. Listen carefully for this noise through all parts of the road test. The back box (i.e. the rear section) of the exhaust will need to be replaced. Try to negotiate the price down by £250.00

Interior Checks

Area What to look for What it means What to do
Boot Check around the front and rear passenger footwells and the underfloor of the boot for any sign of water ingress or leakage. Also check for the smell of damp inside the car. Check the service history to see if this fault has already been identified on the car and been repaired. The 107 can have a fault with the water seals on the doors and hatchback. Water leaks into the boot and footwells which damages the carpets. If the car is under warranty then Peugeot will fix it without charge. Otherwise. Otherwise try to negotiate £300 off of the purchase price.
Airbags Check the Airbag warning light on the dash. If the light is flashing this may indicate that the firing unit on the passenger or driver airbag needs replacing. If the car is less than three years old Peugeot will replace it for free. Otherwise try to negotiate £250 off of the price of the car.
Servicing schedule The first three services are at 10,000 then 20,000 then 30,000 miles or at each year that passes. The fourth service is at 40,000 miles and is a bigger service with a higher cost. Carefully check the mileage and service history to make sure there is not a service due or overdue. If the car is being sold near to, or past a scheduled service then that work is going to be necessary soon. The first three services cost £160.00. If one of these is due try to negotiate that amount off of the purchase price. If the fourth service is due then try to bring the price down by £260.00. If the car has missed any scheduled servicing then it is more likely to be unreliable.

Wheels, Brakes and Suspension Checks

Area What to look for What it means What to do
Front Tyres Check the tread on the front tyres is within the legal limit of 3mm. The 107 can wear through front tyres quickly and they are going to need replacing every 15000 miles or so. If the tread on the tyres is below 3mm the tyre will need replacing. Negotiate £45.00 off of the purchase price for each tyre that needs replacing.

Recalls

Date Model Recall
24 Jul 2009 Built: 19/05/2009 - 26/05/2009 A possible substandard tapping of one or more of the wheel stud holes may result in a reduction of the wheel stud to hub torque setting.
