Hi
I am looking to buy a good car that will last me for couple of years. Which is the best value for money of the Peugeot 206s?
I am not sure if I should go for petrol or diesel? I do quite high mileage each week, about 10,000 a year.
Which one is going to cost less to run? Not too worried about its depreciation as I want spend as little money as possible (£800).
I also charge my fuel on expenses a 50p per mile. Just need a car for couple of year if I’m lucky, that is reliable and drive wells.
Which Peugeot 206 should I go for, if a Peugeot at all? I know I am asking a lot!
Answer
Hi
A Peugeot 206 is a great car and you have made a shrewd choice.
The Running Costs Calculator says it will be cheaper to run the diesel based on fuel and servicing costs.
The fuel cost saving is about £270 a year.
BUT that overlooks that on a car this old, the break down chance is higher on a diesel. As are the likely repair bills. But that said you can be lucky or unlucky with either petrol or diesel when it comes to reliability.
So, buy the one that seems best loved, lowest mileage and keep your fingers crossed. Sadly, despite all the facts and figures we ahve on this site, some things still come down to gut feel.
