Which is the best value for money Peugeot 206, but still quite nippy?
I am trying to decide between a 1.4 Petrol and a 1.4 HDI, priced £3668.99 (petrol)and £4670.49 (diesel).
They have already taken £2,000 off those prices for my car.

We are looking at a £1,000 saving if you buy Petrol here, so the two questions are:
1) Will I spend more than that on running costs?
2) Which will lose the most to depreciation?
If I look at just one year (you can do the calculations for subsequent years at our Running Costs Calculator) they come out like this:
If you do an average 8,000 miles, then you will spend about £300 more on petrol and £20 more on servicing. So it would take 3 years for the diesel to pay for itself. How long are you keeping the car?
Also, the diesel, when it gets to these ages starts to depreciate more. So there is a good chance, dependent on the total mileages of the cars when you go to sell that the diesel will have lost a lot more to depreciation. It could be a difference of around £2,000.
So, without knowing mroe its hard to say, but the petrol could be the better move. Only if doing high mileage will Diesel win and even then, you need to think about depreciation costs.
