PEUGEOT is banking on a spattering of six appeal with the arrival of a new manual gearbox in its 207 hatchback and SW models.

And in a double whammy for fans of the popular supermini the French manufacturer has also introduced a new Euro 5 HDi diesel engine.

The 207 Sport HDi 110 hatchback and SW Sport and Outdoor HDi 110 models are now replaced by new versions fitted with a new six-speed manual gearbox and a more powerful HDi 112bhp oil-burner.

This new 1.6-litre HDi 112 FAP diesel engine meets the requirements of the Euro 5 emission standards and benefits from a number of improvements over the current 110bhp unit.

These include increased performance in terms of driveability and responsiveness, as well as quieter operation, while at the same time reducing CO2 emissions.

Thanks to its new high-tech design, this new four cylinder engine has a maximum torque output of 270Nm at 1,750rpm, an increase of 12.5 per cent over the current engine and, during overboost, 285 compared to 260Nm

It also boasts a wide operating range with high levels of pulling power available at all times, ensuring an enjoyable driving experience and reduced fuel consumption because the driver can proceed more often at lower engine speeds.

Between this new 1.6-litre HDi and its predecessor, more than 50 per cent of the parts have been entirely redesigned.

Peugeot 207 Sport models also benefit from improvements to the standard specification with the fitment of dark tinted rear windows and rear electric windows on the five-door hatchback and SW versions.

Prices are from £15,645 for the 207 HD1 112 Sport and first year Vehicle Excise Duty is zero. Cars are available now.
