IT’S the fastest street legal Porsche ever built and 500 lucky owners will be able to buy one in the autumn.

So feast your eyes on these pictures of the new 911 GT2 RS, a performance car par excellence that can rocket to 62mph in a fleeting 3.5 seconds and on to 124mph in just 9.8. Top speed is 186mph.

With a whopping 620bhp at its disposal, the Porsche has 90bhp more punch than its predecessor and is 70 kilograms lighter, giving it by some way the best power to weight ratio in its class.

Fuel consumption is improved by five per cent to an average 23.7mpg and CO2 emissions cut to 284g/km, despite the extra power.

The six-cylinder boxer engine is boosted by two turbochargers with variable turbine geometry - exclusive to Porsche in its combination with a petrol engine - and drives the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox.

Porsche Adaptive Suspension Management, anti-roll bars, as well as the engine mounts and PSM Porsche Stability Management plus sporting RS spring set-up are all included and ceramic brakes are fitted as standard.

And unlike the 911 GT2, the RS boasts carbon fibre-reinforced components in matt black, wider light-alloy wheels with centre locking and shrouded by flared wheel arches.

The rear spoiler lip is now 10 millimetres higher to ensure the right aerodynamic precision, as well as extra downforce, the upgraded front and rear spoiler lips have a carbon finish and there are GT2 RS motifs on the doors and rear engine cover.

Inside, the lightweight two-tone bucket seats are made of carbon fibre-reinforced plastic and have red alcantara centre sections to contrast with the predominantly black interior and red roof lining.

Limited to just 500 units worldwide, the 911 GT2 RS will be available in the UK from September priced from £164,107. Its world debut will be at the Moscow Auto Show on August 25.
