PORSCHE has lifted the wraps on a new GTS version of the 911 Carrera 4 – with all-wheel drive and a whopping 408bhp of kick.
The 911 was first offered with four-wheel drive in 1989 and the drivetrain has been a popular option ever since, the new 4 GTS building on the success of the two-wheel drive Carrera GTS that went on sale last December.
It uses the 3.8-litre six-cylinder engine from the Carrera S, but with an extra 23bhp and new sports exhaust system - to produce a more throaty sound – and black tailpipes.
While the engine is identical to that used in the two-wheel drive Carrera GTS, the four-wheel drive version features Porsche Traction Management to give better stability and more agile handling.
A six-speed manual transmission comes as standard and the coupe model sprints from 0-62mph in 4.6 seconds, the cabriolet in 4.8 seconds. But if equipped with the optional PDK seven-speed double clutch transmission, an additional 0.2 seconds can be trimmed off the times.
Fuel consumption is identical to the equivalent 385bhp 911 Carrera 4S models at a Combined 26.9mpg for the coupe, with CO2 emissions of 247g/km.
Visual features include a Sport-Design front apron with black painted spoiler lip and special side skirts, also in black, while the cabin boasts sports seats for driver and passenger with black Alcantara trim.
There’s also a reflective stripe between the tail lights and 19-inch RS Spyder alloy wheels in black with a central wheel bolt and gloss-finished rims.
Sales start in July with prices from £83,145 for the coupe and £90,024 as a cabriolet.
