PORSCHE is cranking up the power with a new limited edition 4.0-litre version of the fiery 911 GT3 RS model.

Up for grabs from a princely £128,466, just 600 vehicles will be available worldwide from July with the promise of eyeball-popping performance.

The flat six 4.0-litre sports engine - the biggest 911 powerplant ever - is also the most powerful naturally aspirated engine with 125bhp/litre. It achieves its maximum power of 500bhp at 8,250 revs per minute and delivers its maximum torque of 460 Nm at 5,750 rpm.

This impressive performance continues on the track too, where the car has achieved a lap time of 7.27 minutes at the Nürburgring circuit.

The serious figures for the GT3 4.0, which is available exclusively with a six-speed manual sports transmission, are 0-62mph in 3.9 seconds and, with its gearing designed for the racing circuit, it can hit 124mph in under 12 seconds. Top end is 193mph.

Porsche says that in order to best exploit the increased power, the chassis settings of the new car have been revised, including the set-up of the Porsche Active Suspension Management system.

And with lightweight components such as bucket seats, bonnet and front wings made of carbon fibre and plastic rear windows, the two-seater boasts an exceptional power-to-weight ratio.

The GT3 4.0 is painted Carrara White as standard and has a wide track, low ride height, large rear wing with adapted side plates, central twin tailpipe and air deflection ‘flics’ which make their first appearance on a production Porsche.

Inside, the carbon fibre sports bucket seats are covered in black leather/red Alcantara with ‘RS 4.0’ in red on the headrests while the steering wheel and gearshift lever are also trimmed in Alcantara with red stitching.

And like the 911 GT3 RS, a Clubsport package – comprising half roll cage, seat belt harnesses, fire extinguisher and battery cut-off switch - is a standard feature of the 4.0 model.
