Here's an example fault on the PORSCHE Cayman (2006-2012)

What to look for:

First with the engine cold, then with it hot, look under the car and check for any oil under the engine and gearbox.

What it means:

This is very likely to mean the Rear Main Seal is defective. This is a very common fault on the earlier, pre direct injection variants of the Cayman.

What to do

The RMS is the seal between the gearbox and the engine. A very small leak is not a large problem but if you can see oil on the ground the RMS will need to be replaced. If you find this fault then try to reduce the price of the vehicle by around £700.00.
