RENAULT has opened the order book for its new Kangoo small MPV range, which goes on sale next month priced from £11,200.
That is for the 1.6-litre Extreme model, with the most expensive being the 106bhp 1.5dCi Expression at £14,050.
Built on the same platform as the Scenic model, the new Kangoo is taller and wider than the current car and has a longer wheelbase, which means more room inside.
The engine choice comprises a 1.6-litre petrol unit with two power outputs and three versions of the 1.5-litre diesel including a new common-rail version mated to a six-speed gearbox for the first time.
Later in the year there will be a four-speed automatic option with the more powerful of the two petrol engines.
Renault says that the newcomer's versatility and flexibility will have greater appeal to young families following leisure pursuits and also to older couples who will appreciate the high seating position, which makes it easier to get in and out.
The rear seat is split 60:40 and folds to create a completely flat load space, with the rear seat base sliding forward into the foot well and the rear seat back folding down in its place.
When combined with the folding front passenger seat, load volume is boosted from 660 litres to 2,866 litres. In this configuration the Kangoo can carry objects up to 2.5m in length.
Options include cruise control, front and rear curtain air bags, electric rear windows and roof bars.
Later in the year other options will include Bluetooth, traction control, parking sensors and satellite navigation.
