RENAULT'S recently launched Koleos has taken a hat-trick of titles at Planet 4x4 magazine's recent 2008 awards, including top gong for 4x4 of the Year.
All the manufacturers were there but the Koleos won through against 47 more established competitors including Land Rover Discovery and Ford Kuga.
The French maker's first effort in the 4x4 class first won against the Honda CRV, VW Tiguan and the Kuga to win the Compact SUV title.
Then it went on to win Best Newcomer and 4x4 of the Year.
Renault's combination of off and on-road ability, plus a well thought out interior giving considerable versatility helped it win through.
The judges liked its split tailgate, removable centre console storage and easily folded rear seats.
They were also impressed by the high equipment levels, build quality and projected residual values.
I agree. The Koleos is good to drive in all situations, comfortable, refined and quiet.
Interior
Those 'Super Fold' rear seats are a doddle, taking just seconds to put down for more load space.
And the rest of the inside is spacious, well thought out and delightfully quiet and comfortable.
