Question

I have a Renault Megane.

I have a zig zag horizontal orange light that has come on, on the dashboard.

It is the second light in from the right hand side of the dash. Can you help please?

What does it mean?

Answer

It’s an engine management warning light, meaning that the computer has detected an emissions problem. If the red light comes on, you need to stop the engine, but the amber one means it’s safe to drive home or to a dealer. It could be anything from spark plugs needing cleaning to an oxygen sensor to a loose pipe – any garage with a fault code reader should be able to read the code and get an idea of the general area of the problem.

(By the way, I have no idea what Renault thought they were signifying by this symbol – answers on a post card...) Tim.
