IN the face of intense competition a fresher face is on the way for Rover's compact 45 hatchback and saloon models.
Until a completely new replacement can be funded and produced, the Rover 45 is attempting to compete by offering as much as it possibly can for the money.
However, it is becoming increasingly dated, so now there is a make-over to give it a more modern appearance.
The idea is to achieve some of the kudos of the larger executive Rover 75 saloon by borrowing some of its design features.
At the front there's a new bumper and new twin-lens headlamps, whilst at the rear there is fresh styling for the boot and bumper while alloy wheels and centre-line badging complete the exterior picture.
Inside, there is a new fascia, centre console, switchgear, and instrumentation, plus the addition of some new technology equipment.
It does not add up to very much, but is the best that Rover can do under the circumstances. Prices stay the same, with the 1.4-litre entry model starting at £9,995, and first deliveries from May.
