SPANISH maker SEAT is looking for a slice of the September new-reg action with the arrival of a new FR+ derivative for the Leon range and an extension of the sporty FR spec to a broader engine line-up.
The FR trim level was responsible for a whopping one in four Leon sales last year so extending the badge appeal to the 1.4 TSI 125 PS manual and two litre TDI CR 140 PS with either manual or DSG transmissions is a natural progression.
Prices now start at £18,205 for the Leon FR 1.4 TSI and the FR spec includes FR front and rear bumpers, twin chrome exhaust pipe, silver-painted door mirrors, LED rear-light clusters, FR sports seats and steering wheel, rear parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlights and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror.
Meanwhile, the new Leon FR+ spec is a significant step up from the ‘standard’ FR trim. Additional features include 18-inch alloy wheels; the SEAT Media System 2.2, which includes satellite-navigation with five-inch colour touchscreen and dynamic route guidance, DAB radio, Bluetooth audio streaming and SD card slot; Bluetooth phone connection; Bi-xenon headlights with AFS (Adaptive Front-lighting System) and front parking sensors.
It’s available with SEAT’s two litre TSI 211 PS petrol and two litre TDI CR 170 PS diesel engines at a premium of £1,070 above the standard FR spec – although SEAT says the extra kit is worth almost £2,500.
