Hi
I have recently bought a Seat Leon, it’s a fantastic car and I love it, However I do not have the full service history for it. I bough the car from a Seat dealer and when first looking at the car I was told it had full Seat service history as it wouldn’t be an approved used Seat without it. Upon collecting the car after handing over £9,000 for the car I and the dealer discovered they did not have the service history for the car.
It is 3 years old and has done 35,000 miles has just had a service which was done by the dealer I bought the car from but it should have had 2 more services done which are not in the book. The dealer is currently trying to contact the previous owner to find the service history.
I am obviously very annoyed that this was not checked before as I would not have bought the car had I known it didn’t have a full service history.
What I wanted to know is, if the dealer can’t come back to me with the full service history for the car would I be entitled to ask for some money back and if so how much?
Answer
Hi
For your legal options, take a look at our dispute advice. You probably have a case for a refund - but that's not what it sounds like you want.
If the car has had its latest service and not missed any major services then it should be fine. I would push the dealer to pay for a full year's warranty though, because you no longer have the peace of mind you should have.
