SUPERB by name and Superb by nature - that's Skoda's flagship saloon.
So good is this car it can grace any executive parking slot, let alone the average household driveway.
At a shade in excess of £21,000 the Skoda Superb is a car of almost limousine proportions and it is packed with refinement.
Leather upholstery, wooden veneer and climate control comfort are all standard features on this king-sized creation.
So is a larger than average boot and the biggest engine to be found in the current Skoda range.
It is a 2.8-litre V6 which has done stalwart performance in many a top class car from the VW stable in the past.
Developing 193bhp it gives the Superb executive express credentials. Top speed is in excess of 140mph and 0 to 60 takes around nine seconds.
For a large car this is all very acceptable but the downside is its thirst.
Expect around only 20 to the gallon in traffic although on a run that can be extended into the low 30s without too much trouble.
The Superb is also heavy on emissions at 238 g/km but put it all into perspective.
This is a car as big as a Jaguar XJ or Mercedes E-Class but at half the price.
Roominess is one of many fortes in the Superb and you can feel like a VIP in the back such is the interior space.
It also looks good and traditional which will win it many friends among the mature market at which it is aimed.
The ride is smooth and quite serene while the five-speed auto box makes getting the best from the engine simple. A tiptronic manual mode is available and it's as rapid as most on the market.
Perhaps the steering could be a little more communicative but that is the only real contention.
The Superb takes its name from a Skoda V8 classic of the 1920s but the latest model shows how far the Czech manufacturer has come - especially since the VW takeover in the 19990s.
The Skodas of 2006 mean business in a way they have never done before - and the Superb is a class act in anyone's book.
