SKODA has style-savvy drivers in its sights with the arrival of a limited-edition version of its compact SUV the Yeti.

Named the Yeti Urban, it is based on the popular SE trim, but features up to £2,450 worth of added equipment at no extra cost.

With more than 8,800 Yetis registered in the UK since its 2009 launch, the model has been hailed as a great success for the Volkswagen-owned Czech manufacturer.

Family-orientated practicality has been an endearing feature of the Yeti and now the company aims to extend that appeal to younger, more style-conscious buyers.

Though the Yeti Urban will be restricted to 750 examples it sets a new benchmark for technology in Skoda cars as the first model to be sold in the UK with DAB digital radio as standard.

Over and above SE trim, the Urban includes Amundsen+ satellite navigation, Bluetooth connectivity and a multi-function steering wheel to control the audio system and phone.

Other design features include 17-inch black and chrome alloys, wheel arch extensions, chrome side strips, silver door mirror caps, silver roof rails and roof stripes, while inside there’s a choice of red or black sports seats and sunset glass in the rear.

Available only in two-wheel-drive with manual transmission, the Yeti Urban comes with a choice of two engines – a 1.2-litre TSI 105PS petrol unit or 2.0 TDI CR 110PS DPF diesel.

The petrol-powered version offers fuel economy of 44.1mpg Combined and CO2 emissions of 149g/km while the diesel can return 52.3mpg with emissions of 140g/km.

There are four colours on offer - Black Magic pearl effect, Candy White, Brilliant Silver metallic and Steel Grey metallic – with no extra charges for metallic paint, and accessories include stainless steel pedals at £80, sports exhaust trim (£50) and a portable DVD player with twin 9-inch screens (£315).

Sales start next month and prices are £16,900 for the petrol model and £18,330 for diesel.
