THE tiny smart Fortwo is still one of the cutest little city cars around and its appeal appears to be as strong as ever.

It is ideally suited to towns where parking is a problem with larger vehicles and its unmatched manoeuvrability is a bonus for owners.

It's also cheap to run, with the majority of smart models returning more than 60mpg, and insurance premiums won't break the bank. Typical insurance groups are from two to five.

Depending on the specification level you choose, whether Pulse, Pure or Passion, you will find a good level of equipment offered on all models with safety features also given priority.

The Smart Fortwo is available as a coupe, or for those who like wind in the hair motoring, the sporty cabrio would suit.

Engines include a 999cc petrol, giving 60bhp, 70bhp, 83bhp or 97bhp. There is also a 44bhp diesel on offer.

Fuel consumption is excellent, with the diesel version returning a superb 88 mpg, and even the top range Brabus Xclusive version offering 54mpg.

The Brabus turbo engine generates 98bhp of power that enables acceleration from 0 to 62mph in 9.9 seconds, this also entails sportier transmission tuning, chassis and suspension components developed specifically for the smart, large alloy wheels and effective aerodynamic elements.

Brabus Xclusive versions also have unique design elements in high-quality materials such as leather, brushed aluminium and stainless steel.

All smarts have three-cylinder engines and automatic gear changes which can also be operated manually.

Depending on the model the smart can offer amongst other equipment, CD player, air conditioning, electric windows, sports steering wheel, alloys, driver and passenger airbags and stability control is standard on all models.

Prices start at £6,912 for the 1.0 60 mhd Pure and up to £16,026 for the 1.0 97 Brabus Xclusive.
