SUBARU has announced that the high performance WRX version of its new Impreza - due on sale in November - will cost about £1,000 les than its predecessor.
In 230bhp WRX guise the Impreza has a 2.5-litre turbocharged engine for rapid acceleration from rest to 60mph in just over six seconds.
It will cost from £19,995 which is £1,100 less than the previous WRX.
The new Impreza range, which goes on sale later this month, is priced from £12,495 for the entry-level 1.5-litre model.
The new shape Impreza is initially available in hatchback form only with a choice of two petrol engines although a saloon model and a 2.0-litre diesel engine option are due next spring.
All versions come with four wheel drive, alloy wheels, climate-control air-conditioning, radio/CD player, height and reach steering-wheel adjustment, fog lamps, front and rear electric windows, plus side and curtain airbags.
The WRX has 17-inch alloy wheels, front and rear spoilers, side skirts, a rear bumper diffuser, leather-covered steering-wheel and gear-knob, a rear limited-slip-differential with dynamics control, ten-speaker, six-disc radio/CD player and xenon headlamps - and the trademark air scoop in the bonnet.
