TWO Suzuki models have grown to three in a move to widen the appeal of the Japanese car manufacturer's most popular model.
Out go the GL and GLX and in come SZ2, SZ3 and SZ4 - new grades that are claimed to offer extra choice to buyers of the Swift supermini from next month.
Petrol and diesel engines sized at 1.3-litres continue to power the range and a 1.5-litre petrol version remains available with automatic transmission. But a wider spread of equipment mean the top version will now boast automatic air conditions and alloy wheels as standard. The 1.6-litre Swift Sport continues unchanged.
More than 54,000 examples of the Swift have been registered in Britain since the car went on sale four years ago and the new grading will allow customers to better match the car to their needs, believes sales and marketing director David Seward.
'The Swift is an excellent choice to make in the current climate as consumers look to downsize their vehicle and move to smaller, more tax efficient cars,' he said.
Prices start at £9,190 for the SZ2, which has driver and front passenger airbags, side airbags, curtain airbags, electric front windows, steering wheel controls for audi equipment and body coloured door handles and mirrors.
The SZ3 adds front fog lamps, power adjusting and heated door mirrors and manual air conditions and the SZ4 comes with keyless start, climate control and alloy wheels.
