Hi Matt,
I am looking to replace my 7 year old 998 Toyota Yaris, and am looking for something even more fuel/insurance/car tax efficient. I have been looking at the Toyota Aygo the Citroen C1and the Peugeot 107.
These seem to be the best city car's at the moment although they are really the same car, is there anything else on the horizon that can compete with these.
Many thanks
L Clark
Quite right too Linda,
Good enough is not good enough. Only the most thrifty car, when taking into account all the variables will do. There is only one correct answer.
But hang on; do you want cheapest or best value?
You see, the Hyundai i10 Comfort has a 1.1 litre engine, proper trim on the doors, electric windows, a cd player and air conditioning as standard and is only £7,345. It is found lurking in insurance group 2, VED tax band C (to be E in 2010) and a combined average MPG of 56.5. And coming up later this year is a better 1.2 litre engine.
Whereas the Toyota Aygo has a lot of bare metal, an even smaller engine (how it gets up hills I don’t know) no electric windows, no air conditioning, is a thumping £6,950. But it is in insurance group 1, VED tax band B and does a combined mpg of 68.9.
So its i10 for value, but C1/Aygo/107 for cheapness. There is a new Twingo coming out later this year but I can’t see it pipping the C1.
