Hi
I am thinking of buying a 2006 Toyota Avensis 1.8 diesel estate.
My question is, if I only do about 5-7000 miles per year, is it going to affect the car in any way or should I leave the diesel and look for a petrol one.
Thanks

Answer
Good question Frank.
Quite often when you only complete low annual mileage, taking the petrol option can make sense because the car is usually a lot cheaper to buy and that far outweighs the cost of the extra petrol.
In the Avensis' case though, the 2006 petrols are achieving very similar prices to the diesels (2.0 litre in both cases because the 2006 models don't come in a 1.8 variant).
So unless you spot a bargain, according to our running costs calculator, the diesel is the way to go as your fuel bill should be about £250 less....
