Hi,
I bought a 55 reg 30,000 mile Corolla from an Approved Toyota dealer, who said that the car would be fully serviced before I picked it up.
Now, 9 months later, I have taken it in for its MOT and 40,000 mile service and face a repair bill of £1,000 including both front and rear brake calliper replacements as they were worn to the metal and a new tension timing belt.
I am told that only the belt is covered by the warranty, but I fail to see how, if that car was fully serviced 9 months ago, it needs so much work doing to it?
Answer
Hi
I would suggest you ask the dealer to waive the cost of labour. It's not ideal, I know, because with other used approved schemes you would expect to get atleast 1 year before needing a service.
If the dealer doesn't instantly try to make amends, ask to see all the paperwork relating to the inspection carried out before it was sold to you, to check it was suitable for their used Approved programme.
If there is no evidence that the brakes were checked, you should complain to Toyota head office. If the record suggests that the brakes were worn, but no action taken, then again, complain.
Unfortuneately, you risk finding that they were checked and deemd under the terms of the programme to have enough life left. In which you have weakedned your argument that the dealer should contribute.
Regards
Matt
