TOYOTA is replacing the hybrid electric water pump on certain Prius vehicles, while stressing that the issue does not represent a safety risk and the campaign is not a recall.
Described as a customer satisfaction campaign, it affects certain second generation Prius vehicles produced between August 2003 and May 2007. Approximately 15,500 UK registered vehicles are affected.
The potential problem with the water pump could cause the vehicle to lose power, and in this condition, the coolant temperature could become high and result in the Malfunction Indicator Light shining.
Toyota has not received any reports of accidents or injuries from problems with the pump and the company says it wants to assure customers that the cars are safe to drive.
The repair involves installing a newly-designed water pump at no cost to the customer.
