What to look for:

Certain diesel models have cam belts. Some do and some don’t so check the service history/ask the vendor to find this out. If in doubt, call a main dealer with the registration/vin (on the bottom of the windscreen, nearside) number and ask.

What it means:

If the car has a cam belt then the cam belt service will be at 60,000 or 100,000 miles.

What to do

If a cam belt service is due, then try to reduce the price of the car by £400. If the car has passed its cam belt schedule without the work having been done then, make sure the car is not driven anywhere until the cam belt is changed.
