As you test drive the vehicle, check for an oily ‘engine’ smell seeping into the cabin when the car is hot. Carefully open the bonnet when the car is running and check for the same smell around the rear of the engine.
What it means:
This oil smell could be related to a split in the breather pipe at the back of the engine.
What to do
If the car is under warranty (3 years/60,000) the Vauxhall may replace the pipe for free. Otherwise try to reduce the price of the car by £100.00
