Is this a common problem with the Vauxhall Vectra and other Vauxhall's?
I have had my 2.2 SR150 in 3 times now regarding the Engine Management Light staying on. First they replaced a Exhuast Emission Sensor - £148.00
Then the light came back on and they say it is now the ECU £650.00 to replace. They also fitted a new Catalitic Convertor not Vauxhall Type before this started happening and I was wondering if that had anything to do with it.
Appreciate your advice. Regards, Brian J Gillan
Answer
I suspect the thing you need to change is your garage. The catalytic converter is downstream from the sensor so wouldn’t affect it, but why did they change it? What were the symptoms? What fault code(s) have they found that lead them to conclude that the ECU needs changing? Go somewhere else, ask them to read the fault codes and tell you what they indicate. Then ask them to check the wiring and connectors in those circuits before changing any components – many Vauxhall problems are nothing more than moisture in the connectors.
