Question

I have a Vectra 2ltr on a 99 plate. If left idling for a while, then accelerate, loads of smoke comes out the exhaust. Its using oil like petrol. I’ve replaced the rocker cover gasket which was leaking and had a compression test done, all are fine. Any ideas or solutions?

Dave Roberts by email.

Answer

Dear Dave,

This sounds frustrating and it is embarrassing when a car causes a scene every time you pull away. I know all about cars like that! It could be a crack in the head or burned out rings… Unfortunately the next step is to start stripping the engine down. You are in the hands of your mechanics I’m afraid.
