VAUXHALL'S Vectra won a huge number of awards during its lifetime, not least of which was for Best Business Car on at least a couple of occasions.
And with cheap running costs, a wide range of engines and trim and strong lasting qualities, it’s not surprising.
Always check prices and don’t pay too much. This is a car which depreciates fast and there are hundreds to choose from.
If one is too expensive, move on to another.
2005 models are now down to around £4,000 and make great bargains second-hand.
Petrol engines are 1.8 to 2.8 V6 with 120 to 251bhp and diesels are from 1.9 to 3.0-litre V6 with 118 to 181bhp.
The saloon was launched at the same time as the hatch and should always be £150 less.
Gearboxes are five or six speed and go for LS or better spec to have a few of the right toys.
Interior
The ride is comfortable much of the time, but just a little unsettled at slower speeds. Safety is excellent, with good handling and road-holding, loads of airbags and stability control on most.
Interior space is excellent, but it’s not as good to drive as the Mazda6 or the Ford Mondeo.
