VOLKSWAGEN'S snappy Scirocco is to be made available with a new eco engine capable of more than 40mpg.
Sized at just 1.4-litres, the TSI unit develops 122bhp - sufficient to zip the two-door coupe model to 62mph from rest in 9.7 seconds and take it to a top speed of 124mph.
But the small-capacity unit will also return average economy of 44.1mpg along with tailpipe emissions of 146g/km, making it the cleanest petrol model in the range.
Prioced at £18,860, the German firm's new entry-level sportster model has a comprehensive list of standard equipment including a six-CD autochanger with iPod preparation, rain and dusk sensors, a multifunction computer, air conditioning and 17-inch 'Donington' alloy wheels as well as a host of safety features including ABS, ESP (Electronic Stabilisation Programme) and six airbags. Adaptive Chassis Control (ACC) is also available as a £765 option.
Volkswagen has also announced a new optional styling pack for the Scirocco GT. Costing £950, the Lugano Black package features 10-spoke, 19-inch 'Lugano' alloy wheels finished in gloss black with additional piano black decorative inserts throughout the cabin.
