Volkswagen Tiguan SE 2.0 TDI 4Motion - Volkswagen Tiguan Car Review

IT'S given us the Touran and the Touareg - now comes the latest T from Volkswagen, the Tiguan.

Size-wise it sits neatly between the other two models, but this sports utility vehicle packs quite a punch.

And the real beauty is the Tiguan offers outstanding value for money. For just under £22,000, you get a whole host of top-notch features that would more often than not be added extras with other manufacturers.

Extras on cars can literally cost thousands these days. In fact, the other day I was trying a car that was priced at £23,000 but had £9,000 worth of extras to add on (no names mentioned).

But not so the Tiguan. Included as standard are alloy wheels, a touch-screen control centre with six CD autochanger and MP3 compatibility, climate control, electric windows, heated door mirrors and a whole lot more.

Admittedly, specifications such as park assist and an automatic dimming rearview mirror will add a few extra pounds, but generally the package is excellent value.

When it comes to the drive itself, the Tiguan certainly lived up to all expectations.

On the open road, the 2.0-litre engine provided plenty of power and the high-seated driving position means excellent all-round visibility - which is always a great bonus when it comes to city centre motoring.

The cabin boasts ample room for five adults along with plenty of luggage space and there are a number of storage facilities scattered throughout.

All the controls and dials are ideally positioned for driver ease and the seats offer plenty of versatility along with specialised lumbar support.

As one would expect from VW, the safety specification on the Tiguan is very sophisticated and accomplished. There are anti-lock brakes, with brake assist, a stabilisation programme, traction control, a flat-tyre indicator and plenty of airbags.

It is also fitted with 4Motion four-wheel-drive, VW's world-class system that offers the very best in driving safety and control for on-road driving and off-road terrain too.

All in all, the Tiguan is great value, a great looker and, above all, great fun too.
