VOLKSWAGEN is offering more for less with its new turbodiesel Touareg - in every respect except price.
The 3.0 V6 TDI engine generates more power for improved performance whilst using less fuel with lower CO2 emissions.
The only penalty is a financial one, with a rise of £825 over the outgoing model.
Almost three quarters of all Touaregs are V6 oil-burners so the reduction in CO2 emissions will collectively be significant with a reduction from 278g/km to 262g/km.
Power rises by 15bhp to 240bhp, torque is up from 370lb/ft to 405lb/ft and Volkswagen says that economy improves too, although the company offers no figures to substantiate the claim.
There is, however, a significant gain in performance with the time taken to reach 60mph falling from 9.2 to 8.3 seconds.
The 3.0-litre V6 engine is linked to a six speed tiptronic gearbox and four-wheel drive.
The new engine, which joins the existing 2.5-litre TDI and 5.0-litre V10 TDI diesel and 3.6-litre V6 petrol engines, also features a diesel particulate filter in the exhaust system.
Prices for the new Touareg 3.0 V6 TDI start at £33,465, rising to £36,865 for the SE model and £39,665 for the range-topping Altitude.
