A RESTYLED version of Volkswagen’s Touran compact MPV is due to be on sale in September.

The car which pioneered automatic parking for VW now has an even more advanced system enabling it to slot into end-on parking spots as well as kerbside spaces.

The latest model, unveiled at the Leipzig Motor Show in Germany, has a new look in line with the current Golf, Polo and Touareg off-roader.

Changes are being made to the grille, rear lights, front and rear bumpers while there is also a new chrome-edged rubbing strip along the side of the car.

As with many other compact people movers, the Touran is now a seven-seater with the third row capable of being folded down into the floor of the vehicle to leave a 695 litre loadspace. Maximum cargo capacity is 1,913 litres with the centre row of seats is folded.

Other changes are made to the dashboard and instrument panel which now features backlit dials and an electronic display screen.

The entry-level petrol engine is a new 1.2-litre TSI unit delivering 105 PS while the diesel range comprises two engines with four different power outputs.

A 1.6-litreTDI is available with a choice of 90 or 105 PS outputs while the 2.0-litreTDI engine offers 140 or 170 PS.

The 1.2 TSI 105 PS petrol and 1.6-litre 105 PS diesel engines will also be available with VW’s high economy BlueMotion technology with Start/Stop which gives the diesel average fuel consumption of 61.4mpg – the best figure of any Volkswagen MPV.

Prices are still to be announced but the current Touran range runs from £17,075 to £23,765.
