Hi
I'm an Australian living in London and I want to spend 700 quid on a car that will allow 3 adults and our luggage to go on several road trips of up to a month at a time.
So therefore long M.O.T. and tax is preferrable as I'm not familiar with the UK process of registering a car.
Something reliable is desired. If it is worthless when Mot and tax expire that is OK.
I was thinking of a Volvo estate - but what do you recommend?
Kind Regards
Peter
Answer
Hi Peter
Do bear in mind that you will have to register the car to a UK address and you must ensure that you can get insurance too, so maybe a friend can help. But a UK driving licence would be a huge help for insurance.
You should look for a car that is sold locally rather than charging around the country for a £700 buy. Check on the internet and local ads. You can still get quite a lot of car for that.
If you want space then an old shape VW Passat is very good, something of a problem with Volvo estates is that they may have led very hard lives.
So a late '90s Toyota Corolla estate or Mazda 626 estate would be reliable and if privately owned have a lower mileage and easily within your budget.
