THE eagerly-awaited diesel version of Volvo's stylish C70 coupe cabriolet will cost from £29,420 when it finally arrives this summer.
It will be available in a choice of three trim and equipment levels with prices rising to £33,170 for the Lux version although the least expensive Sport model is expected to prove the most popular.
Each will be powered by the same five-cylinder 2.4-litre turbodiesel engine that is already available in varying states of tune across the Volvo range from the S40 to the XC90.
In the case of the C70 the power output is 180bhp with a hefty 350Nm of torque or pulling power.
It is initially available only with Geartronic transmission, which combines the benefits of automatic transmission with the flexibility of a manual gearbox.
Despite having an oil-burner beneath its bonnet the 140mph newcomer can nip from rest to 60mph in 8.8 seconds with economy of 39mpg and a CO2 figure of 193g/km.
Volvo says it anticipates that 35 per cent of C70s will be bought with the D5 diesel engine and all will share the same folding steel roof arrangement that transforms the car from a four-seat coupe to a convertible in about 30 seconds.
