Hi,
I am replacing a Peugeot 306TD. I like the Volvo S40, but with a Budget of £1400, I'm limited to higher mileage examples. What would be considered too high a mileage for an S40? Does the mileage matter if the service history is up to date? Would a 1.6 or 1.8 with high mileage be a better choice?
Thanks!!
Answer
Hello,
At your budget we would say that you should look at examples of 1st generation petrol S40s with mileage no higher than 100,000. You should also be able to insist on a full service history at that money. The service history matters more than the mileage at this end of the market. Go for the bigger engine. It may use a little more fuel but it will be have been under less stress for those 100,000 miles and will most likely be more reliable. For that money though, we’d have to strongly recommend the Ford Focus – you can get a nice example of the excellent 1.8 petrol with less than 80,000 miles on the clock and a full history for similar money.
Good luck,
Tom
