VOLVO has announced that its new S80 executive saloon model will cost from £24,375 when it goes on sale towards the end of this summer.
There will be four levels of trim and equipment plus a range of diesel and petrol engines with the range-topping 4.4-litre V8 version costing £41,725.
The 163bhp and 185bhp versions of Volvo's 2.4-litre diesel unit and the 198bhp 2.5-litre low-pressure turbo petrol engine are from the current car and are used elsewhere in the new range.
There is a new 3.2-litre V6 petrol unit that generates 235bhp for a top speed of 150mph and a 0-60mph time of just under seven and a half seconds.
The 4.4-litre V8 is taken from the XC90 and has a power output of 311bhp with an electronically-limited top speed of 155mph and a 0-60mph acceleration time of six seconds.
Although standard equipment levels are high there is a list of options that includes heated rear seats, a personal car communicator, active bi-xenon headlights, rear-end collision warning system and BLIS, which is Volvo's Blind Spot Information System.
There is also what Volvo refers to as its Clean Zone Interior Package which ensures that the air entering the cabin is 100 per cent pure and free from any allergy-inducing micro-organisms.
