A tough, cheap, comfy, used car with style

Question

Hi

I have just sold my MR2 that I have had since new, as I am getting on a bit now -the back giving me some jip - but full NCD gives me an insurance advantage.

I would like a nice car (loved my Celica GT4) but I have decided to try a "disposable" one - if it breaks... buy a new one.

So I want something with a year's MOT for up to about £700, solid build so it can live out on an exposed hill in Yorkshire without falling apart, good quality seats (4 of), 3+ doors, sunroof, electrics, air con, quite responsive with a bit of luxury.

I do very little mileage so it can be heavy on fuel and a high mileage as long as the engine has a reputation for keeping going.

I hardly know how to open a bonnet so nothing that requires tinkering with though.

What can you suggest please?

Answer

Hi

For utter reliability it has to be Japanese and I would say a Honda Accord or Civic three door.

The Accord should have the better spec. Otherwsise a Saab 900 or 9-3 three door will have lots of equipment, climate, leather, heated seats as standard and will be very cheap.

Having driven these to very high mileages myself I can verify their ability to go on..and on...
