Question

Hi

I'm purchasing a BMW 320TD SE Compact and have recently come across numerous forums relating to turbo failures and engines blowing up should I be worried?

Its done 79k miles been serviced regular . I dont really want to purchase it and then end up spending a fortune on a new engine and turbo . Thanks for your help

Answer

The 320D does indeed have a reputation for turbo failure, but if it has a good service history with everything done on time, it’s worth buying the car and taking out a warranty – try to negotiate the price of the warranty off the price of the car, or if it’s from a dealer, ask for year 1 warranty to be thrown in.
