I am about to swap our main car, an E class Mercedes, for a larger 7 seater car vehicle due to another family addition. I am considering the XC90, Q7 and Discovery. The car needs to have the space to seat 7, but also needs to be very comfortable on long motorway journeys. Are there any other options to consider and which would you recommend I look most closely? My only concern about the Q7 is its vast size, as I'm sure there are local buses which are smaller.
Kind regards,

Answer
Gary,
The Q7 is the opposite of Mary Poppin’s carpet bag. It is enormous on the outside, but it feels tiny inside. If I sit in the back I have to sit with my knees around my ears. I have actually been more comfortable in the back of the baby BMW X3.
The XC90 or the Discovery are the right way to go. The XC90 is arguably the better cruiser. Your only other options are really MPVs.
